To My Children (a poem, by Norma Schmid, 1997)

IMG_2512

I don’t know where I’m going
I only know where I’ve been.
I’ve not much life before me
I’ve lasted longer than my kin.

The things I’ve left behind me
Have given me time for thought –
No great fame or fortune are mine,
But blame and regrets I have not.

All my hopes are for my children –
May they always do what is right.
And through darkest days of trouble
Never, never give up the fight.

Troubles in life are for a moment
And very soon will pass away –
So be patient and be prayerful
For pain will only last a day.

In the record books of Life
Are balanced all the things you do.
So forever strive to do your best
And to yourself and God be true.

Your grandmother reminds me a lot of my grandmother, who unfortunately passed a few years ago. Just a few days before my 20th birthday, in fact. I love reading your posts. LOVE Norma!
